“Young people are the losers in the pandemic.”

For Ecobanka, the younger population is once again paying the price in a crisis. If in previous crises they were affected, in this one caused by the pandemic many of them have found themselves outside the umbrella of social protection measures.

The underlying problem is job insecurity, which ends up affecting their income, access to housing, and professional stability.

At the time of the outbreak of the crisis, a high percentage of young people were in the sectors most affected by the pandemic. Social industries such as commerce, hotels, and tourism, in relative terms, are dominated by workers up to 35 years of age. They have been and are the sectors hardest hit by mobility restrictions, and with the handicap that they have been the least able to take advantage of teleworking.

“Covid’s forgotten millennials.”

The aggravating factor for young people is that they are sectors with a high temporary nature, which affects their employability. In practice, it means a fragile link with the labor market.
